Bacalar is in the far south of the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, near the border of Belize. The lagoon of Bacalar is rightfully called Lago de Siete Colores—lake of seven colors, different hints of blue and turquoise. It's a delightful swim in the clear waters, an undiscovered gem of Mexico, since there are hardly any tourists to be found. From the few hotels that are lying at the waterfront, you can jump right from the dock into the lake and, if you're lucky and you get there early, you'll be the only living soul.
